On March 19th, 2016, CCI welcomed UNHCR High Commissioner Filippo Grandi, Deputy Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada Anita Bigusz, and several Syrian refugee families who have recently resettled in Ottawa.
The families shared stories about their past, their journey from Syria to Canada, as well as their experiences in adjusting to life in Ottawa. High Commissioner Grandi thanked settlement agencies like CCI for the excellent work they do to help refugees start their new lives. He also expressed thanks to all Canadians for the way in which they have helped and warmly welcomed Syrian refugees during this time of great crisis, noting that Canada has set an example for the rest of the world.
