A big thank you to Islamic Relief Canada. The organization has made CCI Ottawa one of the recipients of its Share Your Warmth initiative.
This is an initiative across the country with volunteers gathering at Ottawa’s Islamic Relief Centre to package winter relief kits for those in need.
Last year, the kits were distributed to the homeless as well as families in need, some of whom were new Canadians. The kits include warm clothing, living essentials, and hygiene necessities.
Ottawa Regional Manager of the IRC, Yazan Nasreddin, reached out to CCI in mid-November to ask if we would be interested in receiving kits to be delivered to newcomer families.
With 500 Afghan refugees arriving in Ottawa as well as others from hot spots around the world, the answer was an immediate yes.
On Monday, volunteer drivers showed up at our offices to deliver 202 winter blankets and 200 winter kits.
Thank you, IRC.
