The Health Employment Network (H.E.N.) program was truly a life-changing experience for me. When I joined, I was feeling stressed, anxious, and uncertain about how to start my career in the Canadian healthcare system. The program provided not only practical training but also emotional support that helped me regain confidence and clarity about my future.

Through the guidance of dedicated professionals, I learned essential skills that are critical for success in Canada’s healthcare sector. Amir Elazhary taught us how to create professional resumes, cover letters, and CVs that effectively showcase our qualifications. This was an eye-opening experience for me because I realized how important it is to tailor these documents to Canadian standards. Bob, who brought his expertise as a biochemist, trained us on how to handle interviews with confidence. His strategies for answering challenging questions and presenting ourselves professionally were invaluable.

At the end of the program, Marianela Gonzalez, the Health Employment Network Coordinator, provided exceptional mentorship on how to enter and thrive in the Canadian healthcare system. Her guidance went beyond technical advice—she supported me during a time when I was overwhelmed and discouraged. Marianela helped me rebuild my confidence, encouraged me to believe in my abilities, and prepared me for outstanding interviews with employers.

With her mentorship, I applied for a Clinical Assistant position at my medical center and a Clinical Research Assistant I position at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI). These efforts led to two major milestones: I was offered a two-month co-op placement at my medical center and received an interview call from OHRI. These achievements were proud moments in my life and marked the beginning of my journey in Canadian healthcare.

Receiving the certificate for successfully completing the H.E.N. program was another overwhelming and joyful moment for me. It symbolized not only the completion of the training but also the transformation I experienced—from feeling lost and stressed to becoming confident and prepared for my career.

I truly believe that without the help of H.E.N., and especially Marianela’s outstanding mentorship, I would not have been able to accomplish these goals. I am deeply grateful to every member of the H.E.N. team for their dedication, guidance, and support. This program gave me the tools, confidence, and opportunities I needed to start my professional journey in Canada, and for that, I will always be thankful.
