Settlement Journey
The process of adapting to a new country unfolds through distinct phases, each marked by unique challenges and milestones. From the initial shock of arrival to the eventual sense of belonging, newcomers navigate a progression that transforms uncertainty into confidence. We guide and support our clients through each stage of the process, helping them settle, adapt, and thrive.
Arriving
Arriving
The focus is on basic survival: finding shelter, understanding immediate needs, and coping.
Reception
Newcomers receive essential information and support to meet their immediate needs upon arrival in Canada. This may include airport welcome, temporary housing, and ensuring food security.
Grounding
Grounding
The goal is to move beyond survival by building a sense of security and laying the foundation for independence.
Orientation
Newcomers are assessed based on their needs through a formal Needs Assessment process. A personalized Settlement Plan is created, outlining goals and priorities in areas such as housing, public services, financial matters, language, employment, and health care.
Building
Building
This phase is marked by intentional learning and adaptation by gaining skills, understanding systems, and forming meaningful connections.
Integration
With support from CCI team members, newcomers put their Settlement Plan into action. This involves referrals to services, connections to partners, information sessions, and access to specialized programs. Team members coach and track progress as goals are achieved.
Belonging
Belonging
Uncertainty has been replaced by confidence and connection. Outcomes of this phase include career fulfillment, stable housing, and active participation in community life.
Inclusion
As clients approach full independence, our focus shifts to empowering them to build a sense of belonging, understand their rights and responsibilities, and actively contribute to the community. The ultimate goal is for clients to achieve self-sufficiency and no longer require settlement support.
